Historique:

The Kitterlé was mentioned for the first time in 1699. In 1782 twelve « schatz » of vineyard were recorded as the exclusive property of the Jesuits from Ensisheim. The wine from this slope is marketed in its own name since 1830.

Situation:

The Kitterlé is a volcanic sandstone soil occupying a unique site on mountain ledges, on a rocky spur exposed to three directions (south-west, south and south-east). The light and sandy soil retained by immense dry stone walls allows only a limited yield (25 to 35 hl/ha).

Vinification:

Our Pinot Gris Grand Cru Kitterlé 2008 was harvested manually in wooden crates, on 12th October 2008. Entire grapes are pressed, with static racking. Fermentation in thermo-regulated tuns for one to four months. Matured on fine lees during eight months. Bottled in February 2010.

Dégustation:

The colour is bright, golden yellow with green reflections. The disc is thick, with thick and fatty legs, which join the wine with elegance. The robe shows a concentrated wine. The first olfactory contact is intense and pleasant. An overripe character that stands out in aromas of dried apricots and currants. I also detect a hint of noble vegetable aroma. After aeration, the aromas of maturity are intensified, notably fruits in brandy and rosehip preserve. A subtle hint of hay is also released. A wine that shows a very beautiful maturity. On the palate, the onset is frank and nervous. This wine is to be tasted in a dry register; it combines sugars that are present and smoothly blended in a dense and concentrated matter, invigorated by a linear freshness. A great complexity of aromas is revealed. The fruits are expressed by William pear and apricot. A vegetable character comes from the notes of fresh hay and wild flowers. A note of bay leaves completes the range. The length is discovered over 5 to 6 caudalies in an intense and mineral finish marked by a sensation of ashes. A complex mouth, showing great qualities.
